The Black Cedar Trio is devoted to the performance and creation of chamber music for flute, cello, and guitar. They apply this unique mix to a wide range of repertoire, including Renaissance love songs and dances, Baroque trio sonatas, Appalachian folk songs, and world premieres by living composers. They are particularly interested in promoting new chamber music coming out of Asia, such as the music of Cambodia's Chinary Ung, China's Lei Liang, and Thailand's Narongrit Dhamabutra.

Recent appearances include Trinity Chamber Concerts in Berkeley, Noontime Concerts in San Francisco, the Deep Valley Chamber Music Series in Ukiah, Last Fridays @ Pro Arts in Oakland, Tangents Contemporary Guitar Series in San Francisco, Second Fridays @ Arlington in Kensington, Seventh Avenue Performances in San Francisco, and concerts at San Jose State University. They appear this summer at the Davis Art Center and Berkeley's Subterranean Art House.

"Something special is stirring in our backyard...an intimate friendly audience sits in the dim light, experiencing new, exciting, and deeply personal music performed with mastery....Lin demonstrates comfortable execution of sustained fast fretwork. They perform beautifully together: perfect synchronization of subtle rhythms and phrases."

South Bay Guitar Society

"They bring a solid academic foundation to their performances...Black Cedar brought their historically-informed performance talents to the Noontime Concerts recital series at Old St. Mary's Cathedral...Palmer performed Blavet's Sonata on her wood flute, taking advantage of its period-appropriate sonorities under the control of a modern key system. Lin provided the continuo with similar period-appropriate sensitivity...The overall result was a delightful introduction to early repertoire, presented with historically-informed performances on modern instruments." - The San Francisco Examiner
